Mr. Gartrell has spent over thirty years as an executive compensation specialist. Clients have included Google, Discovery Networks, Disney, Comcast, SAIC, Yahoo!, Symantec, Rovi, NuVasive, StemCells, Sequoia Ventures, San Diego Gas & Electric, Pacific Gas & Electric, Airtouch, Brocade, VeriSign, DTS, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chevron, CalPers, the State of Ohio, University of San Diego, SharpHealthcare, Lam Research, OneSun, EcoSpan and eTrade.
Mr. Gartrell has authored several substantial books on executive compensation, including the 1300 page treatise “Executive Compensation for Emerging Growth Companies” and “409A Administrative Handbook.” He has advised boards and management on all aspects of executive and board pay and has advised on dozens of IPOs. He is an expert in tax, securities and accounting nuances of executive and equity pay and he has served as a very successful expert witness on numerous high value cases, representing companies such as Disney, General Atomics, Citrix, Hewlett Packard and Sequoia Ventures. He has been included in Best Lawyers in America and San Francisco Bay Area Super Lawyers for many years.
Mr. Gartrell has been a partner/shareholder at the Wyatt Company, Pillsbury Madison & Sutro, Heller Ehrman, Fenwick & West and The Croner Company. In addition to being a CPA, having started with Price Waterhouse, he has degrees from Capital University, Ohio State and Harvard Law School.
